They wanted a traditional Valaisan day, but without folklore or anything staged for visitors. We spent the day in and around Évolène, one of the best‑preserved villages in the Val d’Hérens, known for its dark wooden houses, stone roofs and strict architectural rules that have kept the village intact.
The pace was deliberately slow, with time spent with local craftspeople and producers, understanding how things are still done and why they remain relevant here. Évolène’s culture is rooted in dairy farming, seasonal movement and self‑sufficiency, and the day reflected that — practical, generous and grounded.
Lunch was taken locally, built around regional food and wine.
