WHAT WE DO IN VALAIS

We work across days, stays and whole trip design for private clients, couples and corporate groups from the planning phase of a trip, through to the execution of experiences like our epic peak picnics and marriage proposals in wild mountain spots.

Everything is tailored, everything is discreet, and everything is shaped by the same principles: movement, culture, gastronomy, timing and a sense of ease.

  • Private stays and chalet‑based itineraries
  • Picnics, proposals and intimate celebrations — quiet, cinematic moments shaped by landscape and timing
  • Curated local visits — deep‑research days built around artisans, producers, mountain culture and the stories behind a place
  • Corporate offsites and team building shaped by mountain logic
  • High‑energy alpine days — from bisses to glaciers
  • Whole‑stay planning across Valais

Everything is designed to feel effortless, grounded in place and quietly unforgettable — the kind of days that stay with you because they were shaped with clarity, confidence and care.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy behind Above & Beyond began with a simple idea in 1999, sparked by a James Bond film: team building belongs in the mountains, not in meeting rooms. Watching snow, helicopters, speed, dog sledding and high‑altitude gastronomy collide on screen made something obvious — the Alps are the perfect stage for pressure, precision and play. The same elements that make a great action sequence also make an unforgettable corporate trip: movement that wakes people up, challenge that bonds them, and moments of pure spectacle that become shared memory. Up here, altitude sharpens thinking. Awe opens people. Creativity arrives more easily when the landscape is doing half the work.

Gastronomy became part of the philosophy almost immediately. Training at cookery school in 2000 showed me how extraordinary meals placed deliberately into extraordinary settings can transform how people experience a place — even more so when the table sits high on a glacier. That blend of movement and gastronomy still anchors everything we do.

Italy added warmth, generosity and instinctive hospitality. London added creative discipline and judgement — how ideas land, how moments become memorable. Valais brought precision, calm and the mountain logic that rewards good organisation.

Over time, people asked us to take on more than a single experience: whole stays, whole trips, whole days shaped quietly behind the scenes. They trusted the discretion, the organisation, the ease — and the sense of adventure threaded through it all: the combination of altitude, sport, gastronomy and atmosphere that makes the Alps feel cinematic without ever trying to be.

At its core, the philosophy is simple: experiences, stays and trips should feel effortless — even when the organisation behind them is anything but.

WHAT SHAPES US

Swiss precision

Organisation, timing and preparation matter. A day that runs well is a day that stays in the memory. Precision isn’t a style choice — it’s the foundation that makes everything else feel effortless.

English ease

A quiet, down‑to‑earth ease keeps the experience grounded — human, calm, never over‑produced.

Italian warmth

Shaped by Italian roots, an Italian degree and years living in Italy — and influenced by neighbouring Ticino and the Aosta Valley — Sophie’s approach carries the instinctive hospitality and generosity that define Italian life.

Rooted in Valais

Everything begins here — the altitude, the culture, the mountain logic — and the contrasts that define this region: glaciers and vineyards, quiet valleys and world‑famous resorts, stillness and movement. Valais shapes how we design days and how we run them: precise, calm, grounded in place.

WHO IS BEHIND IT

I’m Sophie — British by birth, Swiss by choice. I’ve lived in Valais since moving to Verbier in 2012 and now call Bruson home, looking across the valley to Verbier. Verbier brings energy and access; Bruson brings balance. That contrast shapes both how I live and how I work.

My background crosses gastronomy, wine, sport, mountain culture and creative digital campaigns. I trained as a chef, studied Italian culture, history and linguistics at university, lived in Rome, then spent a decade in London’s creative industries before moving to Aosta and finally to Verbier to build a life in Switzerland. I made Valais and the Alps my home for good, launching Above & Beyond in 2015 and earning qualifications in skiing, pilates, wine and hotel and restaurant management.

I work in English, French and Italian, and I’m improving my German — part of deepening my connection to the region and its language break. Warm, organised, decisive — that combination sits at the centre of everything I run. My work blends cultural intelligence with operational clarity: understanding a place deeply, reading people quickly, and shaping days and stays that feel effortless on the surface because the structure beneath them is strong.

HOW WE WORK

We design days and stays that feel coherent, grounded and easy to enjoy — shaped by judgement, timing and mountain logic. The organisation is meticulous, but the atmosphere is relaxed; that balance is what defines our style.

We believe in: – serious organisation where it matters – a light touch in delivery everywhere else – experiences and days that belong here, not imported in – discretion as standard – perfection in the planning, ease in the moment

It’s a simple principle: perfection in the organisation; relaxation in the experience. That’s how days feel effortless — even when an enormous amount has happened behind the scenes to make them that way.

We still love helicopters. Still love the glacier. Still believe the best days are the ones that feel natural, unforced and quietly unforgettable — the kind that stay with you not because they were dramatic, but because they were designed with clarity, confidence and care.
